Curzon Building catering outlet to undergo major refurbishment

£1.15m refurbishment to Curzon's main restaurant and The Curb to bring a fresh new look and yet another Starbucks. Works start from Monday 26th June and are to last 10 weeks.

The canteen, kitchens and coffee bar 'The Curb' will be removed and replaced with three new distinct outlets in the ground floor mezzanine. The Assembly, a new food court with live cooking area and seating, and The Residency, a new home for the Fuel initiative which brings local street food traders onto campus, will be exciting new changes to the City Centre campus' main catering outlet. It's worth noting that The Residency will not be open every day, so dates and times will be advertised in advance in the same way Fuel is currently operated.

In the current climate, the biggest question is whether this will incur a price increase to the food sold, or will efforts be made to keep food aimed at students to a minimum?

The replacement coffee shop will be a new Starbucks. With two Starbucks in Curzon already, and another on the ground floor of Parkside, is bringing a fourth into the mix a wise - or even useful - idea? This will limit coffee options for students incredibly and will force those who don't want to drink Starbucks coffee to head to either Parkside's 3rd floor coffee pod or STEAMhouse's cafe - which is significantly more expensive than The Curb's current prices.

These works will obviously make the Curzon restaurant and The Curb unavailable, so paninis, salads and sandwiches will be available from the first floor coffee pod and hot food will be available from the Millennium Point restaurant on the 3rd floor. BCUSU's Eagle and Ball is also still serving food midday until 7pm weekdays up until late August.
