We are holding a committee by-election before the summer break as there are still some student and community positions to be filled, and we need YOU to get involved. The Scratch Committee are the team elected to run the station over the year ahead.

Live Music Review: The Temper Trap

The What’s On Team’s Dan Hess and Luke Ford reveal all from The Temper Trap’s visit to Brum…

From the moment that The Temper Trap make their way onto the stage in The Library at the HMV Institute, you could feel a tension. Not a tension that left the crowd un-easy, but one that generated a huge energy in the room and the Australian five-piece definitely did not disappoint.

Their synth heavy rock definitely struck a chord with the crowd, the atmosphere was electric, with the crowd stuck, stunned, by the sheer grandeur of Dougy Mandagis ever-exhilarating falsetto tones backed by a an explosion of beautiful songwriting that leaves the viewer speechless.

Their epic ear pleasing chorus’ convince even the weak hearted to attempt to sing along, even without knowing the lyrics. They perform some new songs off of their latest album, due out on the 5th of june, simply titled “The Temper Trap”, mixed with the obvious crowd pleasers from their first album “Conditions”.

They fool no-one tonight as they leave the stage for the first time, as a large Birmingham crowd eagerly awaits their top 10 UK song and ultimate crowd pleaser “Sweet Disposition”. They humbly retake their places back on stage and get straight back to playing “Soldier On” before the easily recognisable introduction or “Sweet Disposition” sweeps across the crowd. Everyone in the room gives every last shred of energy they can find in their body to belt out the beautiful lyrics, overwhelming and overpowering the vocals of Dougy himself.

With their task complete, The Temper Trap leave the stage for the last time, leaving their fans breathless to slowly dissipate from the room. Overall the gig was energetic, monumental and beautiful and something I would definitely recommend to any fan of music that desires a jaw-dropping experience.
